Child prostitution in Isiolo town has reached alarming levels and steps should be taken urgently to stem it.
Young girls aged between 14 and 16 year comb the streets of the town at night or hang near bars and brothels waiting for clients.
Many young girls drop out of school to join the booming prostitution business, which is seen as an alternative way out of poverty.
This exposes the girls to many diseases, including risk of contracting HIV/Aids. Sometimes they are exploited and battered by clients who do not want pay for their services.
In the end, they do not even benefit from the business, yet they have families and house rents to take care of as they are always the sole bread winners.
We commend the Government for providing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF), which is used for projects to benefit the people. But a lot needs to be done to improve the living conditions of the people and keep girls out of prostitution.
