The European Union has allocated on Monday 15 million euros aid money to go to Somalis living in sprawling refugee camps in Kenya, which are home to some 278,000 people.

The Dadaab camps which house the refugees are already home to three times more people than intended, said European Union humanitarian aid commissioner Kristalina Georgieva. "This year alone the Somali crisis will send another 100,000 people fleeing across the border."

The designated money will enable the construction of extensions to the camps, following the assignment by Kenyan authorities of an additional 1,370 hectares of land.
