Nairobi — Fear gripped Kerugoya Town in Kirinyaga Central District on Wednesday after a primary school teacher was found axed to death and her young daughter gang-raped.

The 35-year-old teacher was struck on the head with an axe as she walked from an outside toilet to her house. Her attackers then went into the house and sexually abused her primary school daughter.

They did not steal anything. Neighbours found the teacher's body lying in a pool of blood and raised the alarm. Police were called in and took the body to the Kerugoya District Hospital mortuary.

The teacher's daughter was also taken to the hospital for treatment. The recent incident brings to three the number of women who have been killed by murderous gangs in the area in the past three months.

The motive for the brutal attack could not be immediately established. A police officer who sought anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the matter, said extensive investigations into the 3am attack had been launched.

Neighbours said they suspected the teacher could have been killed by a gang that had been terrorising residents in the area.

"We suspect that the terror gang has struck again and we are now living in fear for our lives," a resident, Gachoki Gitari said.

Former Member of Parliament, Mr Daniel Karaba, condemned the attack and called on the police to hunt down the killers and bring them to book.

"This is a very serious matter and police should quickly investigate the incident and arrest the killers," he said.
