Nairobi — The Yes camp was leading with a difference of 3.1 million votes with results from 196 of 210 constituencies having been tallied by 7 p.m.
The Yes had recorded 5,696,882 representing 68.79 per cent of the votes cast while the No had 2,583,817 equivalent to 31.20 per cent.
IIEC commissioner Winnie Guchu announced that they were expecting two results as the rest was being tallied.
She added that the final result would be announced later in the evening after two returning officers had brought in their returns.
Analysis at the time showed that the turnout stood at 72 per cent with the votes cast being 8,478,323. A total of 197,624 votes were recorded as rejected.
There was little activity at the national tally centre at Bomas since the No team had already conceded defeat in the referendum poll.
Only a few observers and Yes supporters were in the room as most had already left to listen to an address by President Kibaki, Prime Minister Raila Odinga and Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka at the KICC.
Among those present as the tallying drew to a close were Narc-Kenya chairperson Martha Karua and Yes secretariat co-coordinator Prof Peter Kagwanja.
