Nairobi — Only three matches stand between Kenya's under-20 football team and an Africa Youth Championship berth.
And when the youth team entertains Sudan in their return leg on Saturday at the Nyayo National Stadium, this fact will be ringing in the minds of Vince Ombiji's boys.
Should the Kenyans triumph on Saturday, they will face either South Africa or Lesotho in a home-and-away encounter before boarding a plane for the finals to be held next year in Libya.
In their first leg match, Kenya's captain, Innocent Mutiso, was instrumental in their 2-0 win, and they hope to repeat that feat once the Tanzanian referee blows his whistle at 4pm on Saturday.
"We have been training quite hard for this encounter and we hope to maintain our form we had in Sudan," said Mutiso "All we need is a draw and we are through."
"Sudan have been studying our tape and by now, they must have seen our weak points, but that will not deter us from showing our best in that match," said Ombiji.
Since the inception of the Championship way back in 1977, Kenya has withdrawn from competition three times (1981, 1989 and 1995) and taken part just four times despite the event having taken place 15 times.
Sudan have already arrived for the tie and are training at the Kenya Commercial Bank ground in Ruaraka.
Tickets, which will be sold only on match day by G4S, will go for Sh100 for the terraces, while the VIP tickets will cost Sh300.
