Nairobi — As electronic manufacturing companies strive to reduce their carbon footprint in their productions, LG Electronics has sets its agenda to cut down its carbon emissions by 150,000 tonnes by 2020.

According to regional marketing manager East Africa George Mudhune the solar industry cluster has been organised within the group and is achieving rising integration in the solar power industry:

"As the company is consolidating its solar business operations here in Kenya, LG plans to reduce greenhouse gases by 150,000 tonnes by the year 2020 compared to 2008 and aims to reduce greenhouse gases occurring in product usage by 30 million tonnes yearly," he said.

"LG considers the solar power business as not a mere business expansion but a new growth engine of the LG Group," said Mr Mudhune.

Mr Youngman Ha, LG Electronics new business sales manager said the company has strictly eliminated usage of harmful substances in its manufacturing processes.

Its solar business has also been launched on the basis of environment friendly leadership of LG Electronics.

With the new LG photovoltaic module, Mr Youngman said, the module is perfect for general applications, such as residential, commercial, or utilities.

"In order to maximise profits for customers, LG insists on high quality material policy and is placing its utmost efforts in aesthetic design and optimal module design," he said.
