Nairobi — President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga on Wednesday led top government officials in mourning the wife of Anglican Archbishop Eliud Wabukala.
The two and Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka visited Archbishop Wabukala's Nairobi home to console him after his wife, Caren, died on Sunday evening.
Others in the government team at Dr Wabukala's official residence on State House Road were Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi and ministers George Saitoti, Soita Shitanda, Moses Wetang'ula, Noah Wekesa, Yusuf Haji and Civil Service head Francis Muthaura.
The leaders prayed to God to grant the bereaved family strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
The President noted that Mama Caren was not only a loving wife and mother but also a devoted Christian who remained a strong pillar in the Anglican Church where she immensely contributed to the spread of the Word of God.
Separately, former President Daniel Moi also paid tribute to Caren Wabukala when he visited the home. Mr Moi described Mrs Wabukala as a strong believer in Christ.
He asked the head of the Anglican Church in Kenya to always seek God's guidance and protection in his evangelical duties.
"I am aware that Caren's death has shaken the family but God will offer the necessary support," the former president said.
He also asked the five bereaved children to remain close to their father. "Your late mother was a strong believer in Christ. Follow in her footsteps," he counselled them.
