A clubbing error cost Nation Media Group-sponsored professional David Odhiambo a good finish during yesterday's opening round of the Tusker Kenya Open at Karen Country Club.

Starting from the back nine, Odhiambo birdied the first three holes, then missed the greens on 13th and 15th. He then missed the fairway on 17th to drop another shot for one over par 36.

At the front, he missed the greens with a wedge at the par four-fourth, put his approach shot to the bunker at the sixth for two over 37 and a 73 for the day. "I played well, basically, except some few holes where I over-clubbed, otherwise I was hitting solid shots and the greens were reasonable," said Odhiambo.

Ambition

He said he would target one under or better in today's round. "I am not very ambitious because the way the course is playing, one has to really manage his game." Odhiambo, one of the most consistent players in the country, finished fourth in the local Order of Merit last year after turning professional in April the same year.

He is sponsored in this year's tournament by the Nation Media Group through the Daily Nation.

He will be off at 7.25am in today's second round along with England's Justin Walters and Hernan Rey of Argentina.
