Kapsabet Runner Kiptoo Captures Kisii Road Race Crown

Timothy Kiptoo of Kapsabet won the inaugural edition of the Nation Media Group-sponsored 10km road race in Kisii town yesterday.

Kiptoo returned a time of 28 minutes, 59.64 seconds to take home the Sh10,000 top prize. He was followed by Moses Nkeiyua of Kisii in 29:11.72.

Nkeiyua's second place earned him Sh3,000. Boaz Mayaka of Kebirigo Club in 29:21.79 and he received Sh2,000 for his efforts.

Mayaka and Kiptoo used the race to test their preparation for the Kebirigo Road Race, which will take place on October 5 in Kebirigo town, and the Standard Chartered Marathon to be held on October 23 in Nairobi.

Ronald Kipchumba finished fourth in a time of 29:25.74 while Josephat Ayiera clocked 29:36.03 to finish fifth. The fourth and fifth runners were awarded Sh1,000 each.

Nation Media Group representative Florence Wasike Kigen gave out prizes.

In the women's race, Jackline Nyangeri, who is also training for the Standard Chartered Marathon, won the race in 4:25.69, taking home the Sh10,000 top prize.

Jackline Torori, a one-time winner of Beirut Marathon, came second in 34:25.69 while another international runner, Pamela Lisoreng, finished third in 37:23.99.
