The national central management committee (CMC) of the Constituency Development Fund has sought the help of Central Bank's Anti-Fraud Unit in investigating the disappearance of Sh9 million from the Eldoret East kitty.
Employees of a local bank are suspected to have collaborated in the loss of the money.
An official of the management committee, who did not want to be named, said by telephone that the CDF official had gone underground after withdrawing the money, which was credited to his account in the same bank.
CID officers are also looking for other committee members to record statements.
The officers have also questioned an accounts official at the Uasin Gishu district headquarters.
The national office has frozen the Eldoret East constituency bank account.
The secretary of the CMC, Mr Patrick Gichohi, said investigations would be extended to the bank.
On Kenyatta Day, area MP Joseph Lagat told reporters in Eldoret Town that the money had been embezzled by an official who had allegedly left the country.
The constituency has been allocated Sh47 million in the 2006/07 financial year.
