We in Budalang'i thank President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga for the appointment of Dr P. N Otuoma as the minister for Fisheries.
The ministry should, among other things, protect the interests of the Kenyan fishermen in Lake Victoria.
The 6 per cent Lake Victoria water surface in Kenya employs about 55,000 people, and in 2006 earned our government Sh4.8 billion.
While the dilemma of trespass into the so called Uganda and Tanzania waters continues, fishermen can only hope for a solution through follow up meeting such as the one held in Busia district on June 4, 2003.
