The Cabinet has opposed the move to create a grand opposition in Parliament on the grounds that it is unconstitutional.

The move, the Cabinet said, contradicts the National Accord and Reconciliation Act 2008.
Meeting at State House, Nairobi the Cabinet advised parties forming the grand coalition government to meet with their respective parliamentary groups and reach an amicable solution.
The meeting also deliberated on the thorny issue of amnesty for youths involved in post election violence and reached a number of decisions: To fast-track the establishment of the Commission of Inquiry into the post election violence following the December 2007 elections; The police to categorise the gravity of offences of all the cases of persons in custody, pending investigations for further consideration by the Cabinet; That the due process of law should be respected and there should be total impartiality in regard to investigations and prosecutions.
The President also appointed members of the Commission of Inquiry into the post election violence. They are Philip Waki (Judge of Appeal as Chairman), Gavin Alistair McFadyen and Pascal K. Kambale.
Mr George Mongare Kegoro will be the commission secretary and Mr David Shikomera Majanja its counsel.
The Cabinet meeting was chaired by President Kibaki.
There have been calls by Cabinet ministers and Members of Parliament allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for the youths held in police custody be released unconditionally.
The clamour for their release heightened over the weekend when Prime Minister Raila Odinga said that they should be released because they fought for democracy and played a role into bringing about the formation of the Coalition government.
Separately, the President gazzeted July, 1 2008 as the date when the Political Parties Act will come into force.
