Kenya's leading professional, Dismas Indiza bogeyed the last three holes of the second round but still remained top of the leader board to qualify for Friday's third round of the Mumias Sugar sponsored tournament at Nyali Golf and Country's par 71 course.
He made a good start, rolling in a birdie putt at the first hole and added one more after four holes, winding up the front nine.
However, the back nine was nothing but bogeys which started with the 11th and 12th, and later the 16th to the 18th.
This he did with only a birdie coming at the par three-15th for a 73 and a two rounds total of 143.
Royal Nairobi's Charan Thethy also sprung to the top after he fired the best score of the day, a 69 that included three birdies and a single bogey.
Kiambu's Peter Njiru stood on his own in third place on 145 after returning one over par in the second round.
Muthaiga's Nick Rokoine leveled the course for 147 and he leads a group of five others including joint round one leader, James Ngigi of Limuru who posted six over par on Thursday.
Others tying on 147 are David Wakhu(74), Simon Ngigi(74), Kopan Timbe(76), and Nakuru's Richard Ainley.
The pros will be joined by over 180 amateurs for Saturday's fourth and final round which will decide who takes the top prize in the Sh350,000.
An array of prizes awaits the winners in the amateur section of the annual event.
