Participants for this year's Ndakaini Half Marathon have upped their preparation ahead of this year's event set for September 13.

The event, to be held at Ndakaini dam, will see the top five finishers in the 21km, 15km and 10km take home cash awards, according to the organiser, James Mukuna.

Speaking to the Nation, Mukuna said the top prize in the 15km race will be Sh25,000, while the winners of the 10km race will pocket Sh10,000.

Runners continued with their training at the Nyahururu stadium, Tuesday.

Last year's winners, Bellor Yator and Penina Arusei are expected to defend their titles. Yator won last year in 1:03.58 ahead of Nyahururu's John Guandaru (1:03.59).

Arusei carried the 21km title in 1:16.46 beating Sylvia Kibet (1:17.23) to second place.

Like last year, there will be 15km and 10km race for both men and women in addition to 4km for veterans and 3km for children.

Last year's 15km men winner was Nephat Ngotho in a time of 44:52.05 who beat Elijah Muturi (44:55.03) to second place.
