KABAKA Ronald Muwenda Mutebi yesterday travelled to Kenya by road for a private visit.
Security sources at the Malaba border revealed that Mutebi was expected to meet Kenyan president Mwai Kibaki in Nairobi during his visit.
However, there was no confirmation from State House.
Travelling in a car, Mutebi with three other people, crossed into Kenya at 3.50pm. Police officers from Uganda escorted him to the Kenyan side of the border from where their Kenyan counterparts took over. The Kenya Police Highway Patrol car from Kisumu was also on hand to escort the Buganda King.
The Kabaka and his team stopped in Webuye, 50km from the border, where they had lunch at the Park Villa Hotel.
Kenyan and Ugandan security officers remained non-committal on the Kabaka's itinerary.
Customs officials said there were 12 people in the Kabaka's entourage.
Border residents said the Kabaka made a similar visit last year.
