Machakos Golf Club, the only golf course in the whole of Eastern Province has finally been included in the on going Johnnie Walker Golf Series.
Johnnie Walker Brand Manager, Catherine Nduati said that the club was included in recognition of the fact that it is a unique golf club.
"Machakos is a truly unique golf club, it is full of life and although they still play on browns, Machakos is easily one of the most progressive golf clubs in Kenya today," Nduati added.
"We will be more than glad to be at Machakos this Saturday, and we are sure it will be a very exciting day for golf."
Machakos Golf Club officials appealed to the sponsors during the official launching of the current series where they said Machakos deserved to be included in the series as it had hosted many other national series before.
The club now joins 12 other clubs hosting qualification rounds in the current series and it becomes the seventh nine hole golf course on the calendar.
According to club captain Collins Kaloki, members of Machakos are happy and excited to be included in the calendar.
Prestigious list
"Machakos has waited for four years to be on this prestigious list, we have supported the series by playing in various Nairobi clubs over the years and we have supported the Johnnie Walker brand fully at our home club, we now feel like very much part of the Johnnie Walker family," Kaloki added.
The series has visited four clubs to date. The season kicked off in Nyeri before moving to Eldoret and later Vet Lab Sports Club.
Two weeks ago, the series also made history, visiting Njoro Golf Club for the first time in five years.
The series will culminate in a final on January 17 at Royal Nairobi Golf Club. Five amateurs from this event will win fully paid VIP tickets to the Johnnie Walker Classic in Perth, Australia.
"The popularity of the Johnnie Walker series comes from the fantastic prize at the end of the road, the VIP trip to the Johnnie Walker Classic is a trip of a lifetime, we are glad Machakos are now firmly joining us," Nduati said.
