Regional airline, Jetlink Express, plans to construct a hangar in a move aimed at increasing revenue.
The airline has been subcontracting hangar space at the Aviation International Support Ltd Hangar at Wilson Airport at a cost of about Sh30,400 per day per aircraft.
"Subcontracting is cheaper for us, but we plan to make money from subcontracting to other airlines," said Capt Elly Aluvale, CEO Jetlink Express.
The project set to start in two months time at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport will cost Sh114 million. Ground breaking of the hangar expected to accommodate a Boeing 767 plane is set for November.
The revelation comes at a time when questions are being raised over the security of the company's aircraft. Last week, two Jetlink aeroplanes bound for Eldoret and Kisumu aborted their flights following technical mishaps.
However, Transport minister Chirau Ali Mwakwere moved to allay the fears, saying the airline had valid certificates from the Civil Aviation Authority which conducts safety audits on all airlines.
