Nairobi — Champions Mwamba and hosts Nakuru led big wigs into to the main cup quarterfinals of the Prinsloo Sevens at Nakuru Athletics Club on Saturday. However, it's Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), who produced the most exquisite display to top the ranking after the explosive day one with 164 points as they wound pool C undefeated.
Strathmore also upheld their superlative form in the Western Union National Sevens Circuit's third leg to take second place with 144 points after they also topped pool D with a clean sheet. Nakuru, Impala and Kenya Harlequins all staged impressive shows to make the main cup quarters. Masinde Muliro and Mean Machine from the University of Nairobi made it through after claiming the best second losers in the pools.
KCB will now face Machine in the first cup quarters before Strathmore get to the grounds against Masinde Muliro, the series' new discovery. Nakuru are drawn against champions Mwamba while Impala will clash Quins in the last quarterfinal match. KCB as they crushed Moi University 62-0 before blowing up Kabarak University 50-0 and Mombasa Polytechnic 52-0.
Strathmore effortlessly topped pool D after stream-rolling over Siaya KMTC 43-0, Daystar 52-0 and Bungoma RFC 49-0. Nakuru were also on cloud nine with emphatic 43-0 victory over Kimathi University and thumping Nondescripts 40-0 and Kenyatta University's Blak Blad 22-0.
