PropertyKenya now features RSS feeds for PKNews and Latest Properties for sale and to let in Kenya. Below is an explaination of what RSS is and how to use it. Firefox is an RSS aware Web browser with integrated News/Feed aggregation and excellent security features
- Click on the orange button/indicator that appears at the bottom-right corner of your Firefox browser window.
- In the ensuing menu that appears, select the RSS channel you want to subscribe to.
- A window will appear titled "Add Bookmark". Enter an appropriate name for this subscription (it defaults to the title of the current page). When done, click Ok.
- Open the "Bookmarks" menu from the menubar. The subscription will be listed with the name you provided above. Click on the menu to expand its contents. The menu commands listed basically correspond to page items of new properties in your chosen category
- Click on any of the orange/blue buttons with the texts "RSS" or "ATOM" wherever they appear, either within the page you are browsing or in the address bar.
- A confirmation dialog will appear with the title of the feed, and information on where the feed will be saved. Click on the "Yes" button.
- Open the "Feeds" menu. The feed will be listed with the title, as presented in the confirmation dialog above.
What Is RSS?
RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication." Web sites and blogs use the RSS format to syndicate and distribute frequently updated content via services like My Yahoo! BlogLines and other news aggregators.Syndication benefits both users and publishers by helping users consume more information — instead of visiting multiple web sites to see what's new, users can scan headlines or article summaries and click to read the full text. Some publishers also make their entire content (whether full-text or audio/video) available for users to access via RSS and view in other applications. It's "really simple" for publishers to make content available in this format.
Because RSS is still relatively new on the Net, not all sites syndicate their content today. However, many notable sites offer RSS, and every day the RSS universe grows. For example, news sites such as CNN, Christian Science Monitor, Time Magazine, The New York Times, and CNet's News.com use RSS to syndicate headlines and summaries. Other sites like craigslist use RSS to alert customers to new listings, products, or upcoming events.
